Juliann Sebastian named dean of UMSL nursing college

Juliann G. Sebastian has been named dean of the College of Nursing at the University of Missouri-St. Louis. She will formally start her new position on Aug. 1.
Sebastian comes to UMSL from the University of Kentucky in Lexington, where she serves as assistant dean for advanced practice nursing and a professor in the College of Nursing. "I'm delighted and honored to be named dean of the College of Nursing at the University of Missouri-St. Louis," Sebastian said. "I look forward to working closely with the outstanding and accomplished nursing faculty, staff, students and alumni. This is an important time for the discipline and for health care, and the College of Nursing has much to contribute to the future."
UMSL's nursing college is a comprehensive program, offering bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees. The college is accredited by the Missouri State Boards of Nursing, Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education and National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners.
"Dr. Sebastian has a proven track record as an outstanding educator, researcher and leader," said UMSL Chancellor Tom George. "We are thrilled that she will be joining our campus to lead our great nursing college to even higher levels of excellence."
Sebastian has had numerous faculty responsibilities at the University of Kentucky since joining the College of Nursing as an instructor in the Bachelor's of Science in Nursing degree program in 1977.
In her current role as assistant dean for advanced practice nursing, she is responsible for the college's Academic Clinical Program and Master's of Science in Nursing degree program. She has co-directed the Doctor of Nursing Practice program since its inception in 2001. During her tenure as assistant dean for advanced practice nursing, faculty practice has increased considerably along with clinical opportunities for students.
Sebastian is a fellow of the American Academy of Nursing and was a fellow in the inaugural cohort of the Robert Wood Johnson Executive Nurse Program (1998 to 2001). She has written or co-written numerous scholarly papers and book chapters. She is board certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center as a community health clinical nurse specialist and registered as an advanced registered nurse practitioner in Kentucky.
Sebastian earned bachelor's and master's degrees in nursing, and a doctoral degree in business administration from the University of Kentucky.
