Group Project (70 points possible): Due July 2, 2008 by the beginning of class

• Each student is expected to create a Personal Wiki Page, providing a bit of information about yourself and other interests you might have.  Experiment with the different features of the wiki--add external links, internal links (link back to our "home page") add an image or two--especially an picture of yourself. Update this page throughout the semester--adding links to your individual contributions to the project your group chooses.  Make sure to link all individual work here throughout the semester. When you are ready, make your name on the class home page a link to your personal page. Your personal page should be completed by the beginning of class on Wednesday, June 25, 2008.
• Small groups will be assigned (choose) one of 6 chapters in the required text (Chapters 7-12). Each group will develop an "annotated" outline of the assigned chapter. Every student is responsible for the completion of the project and the group wiki. An annotated outline is a fairly detailed outline of the chapter highlighted with links to reputable outside resources, images and video, and detailed with information from at least two additional sources (per person). Each student must submit 3 multiple choice questions focusing on key ideas from the material they present. Multiple Choice question format
• Groups will use group discussion forums and the class wiki to document and report their group activity.
• Dues dates are posted on the "Assignments, Readings, and Course Schedule," and can be found on the various assignments posted in the "Group Areas" section of the MyGateway site.
• Grading rubric
  • Personal page: 10 points
  • Content of outline--thorough, comprehensive, and complete: 15 points
  • Details and explanations of key points and concepts: 5 points
  • Annotation and use of outside resources (2 per student): 6 points
  • Use of wiki features (hyperlinks, images, etc.): 5 points
  • 3 multiple choice questions (per person, in proper format): 5 points
  • Minimum of two "wiki comments" (125 word) made on wikis of other groups (due by July 16, 2008 beginning of class): 10 points
  • Group evaluation: critical analysis of your own and other members contributions to the project:: communication, coordination, and content contribution: 5 points (email to Mr. Keel by July 16, 2008 beginning of class)
  • Grammar and spelling: 5 points
  • Proper citations and bibliography (ASA standards): 5 points
• Group Project: 70 points total.

Final Project (150 points): Due July 23, 2008 by the beginning of class

The final project can be an individual, team, or group project. A short in-class presentation during one of the last two class sessions is a required part of this project. Students must arrange their time accordingly. Ideally, students will work on themes and policy initiatives related to their group project work, but extend and enhance the research they do in a specific area (Education and Prevention Alternatives, Drug Misuse Treatment, Legalization, Harm Reduction, Prohibition).

Final Project Deadlines:

1. Students must submit a final project topic by Wednesday, June 25. In addition, students must select a presentation date of either July 23 or 30.
2. Multiple Choice Questions for the Final Project are due no latter than July 22 at 11:59 PM, but to insure full credit you may wish to submit them much earlier in case modifications are necessary.
3. All final projects are due on July 23 at the beginning of class.
4. Comments on others' wiki pages must be completed by July 30 beginning of class.

• This project is considered to be the equivalent of a 10-15 page paper (per student) and must be "presented" as a collection of pages within the class Drug Policy Wiki.
• Statement of purpose--research problem: 10 points
• Content thorough, comprehensive, and complete: 40 points
• Details and explanations of key points and concepts related to class discussions and reading: 20 points
• Annotation and use of outside resources/literature review (5 per student): 20 points
• Use of wiki features (hyperlinks, images, etc.): 15 points
• 5 multiple choice questions (per person, in proper format): 10 points
• Minimum of three "wiki comments" (125 word) made on final projects of other students/groups (due by July 30, 2008 beginning of class): 15 points
• Grammar and spelling: 10 points
• Proper citations and bibliography (ASA standards): 10 points
