Last fall, over 100 elected officials and community members gathered in Blackburn Park in Webster Groves for the first annual “Women Walk Before They Run,” event, sponsored by the Sue Shear Institute for Women in Public Life. We were joined by KTVI-Channel 2, as well as men and women of all ages who walked along shady paths lined with women candidates’ yard signs to celebrate the importance of women’s leadership and civic engagement.
By all accounts it was a successful first year, and we are expecting even greater participation this fall. We are pleased to announce that the 2008 Walk will be hosted by Clayton Mayor Linda Goldstein in Shaw Park on Saturday, September 20.
The Walk encourages women to learn from others who have embraced public service in the casual environment of walking and talking at the same time. The proceeds of the event will underwrite the Institute’s 21st Century Leadership Academy, which prepares college women for careers in the public sector. Graduates of the Academy will be on hand to play “Follow the Leader” with girls ages 7-18, encouraging them to become strong leaders.
You may register through either our online form or by printing and mailing in your registraton. For more information please send us an email or call the Institute at (314) 516-4727.
The Institute is grateful for the generous contributions from the walk's sponsors.
The following Clayton businesses have donated materials to help our effort: The Running Center, Companion, Starbucks, Straub's Market, Massage Envy, Lusso, Barucci, Golftec, St. Louis Suit, Barcelona Restaurant
