Optional Practical Training Workshop schedule - Spring 2008
If you are an F-1 student who is interested in applying for your Optional Practical Training (OPT) work authorization benefit, you will need to attend an OPT information session. Please call 516-5229 or click burrisa@umsl.edu to sign up for a session. If you sign up by email, please include your full name, phone number and student number.
There will be three sessions offered this semester. The information session will cover how to file the application for OPT as well as the rules and regulations that apply to F-1 students on OPT.
Appointments with ISSS staff to discuss OPT are only available on a very limited basis so be sure to attend one of the sessions below. Each session will last approximately 45 minutes to an hour. Please arrive on time.

Be aware that due to time limits on OPT eligibility, applications processed at the end of the semester may not receive a full 12 months of post-completion OPT. It's in your best interest to apply early. You also need to be aware that we do not recommend travel outside of the US while your post-completion OPT request is pending.
For students seeking pre-completion OPT (OPT during your academic program), remember the 3 month processing time while deciding when to file your OPT application. You would not be able to begin employment until you have received your Employment Authorization Document (EAD), and the start date printed on it has arrived.
Please also see the OPT information pages on our website.
