Credit Courses

University of Missouri-St. Louis students majoring in elementary education and teachers seeking Missouri certification are required to take an economics course. These budding teachers find several of the Center's specially designed courses valuable in meeting their requirement as well as providing guidance in the methods used to teach economics at the elementary and secondary levels.

ECON 3052: Microeconomics for the School Curriculum (a.k.a. Economics for the Elementary Classroom) This course is offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:30-11:45 and off schedule on Fridays from 8:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. In addition, this course is generally offered during the evening in the Fall semester.

The graduate-level, three-credit-hour course, Econ 5052, will introduce teachers to the basic economic concepts presented on the MAP at the elementary and middle school levels. In addition to content instruction, teachers are also presented with the methods to teach economics in fun and active ways. Practicing Missouri teachers may be eligible for partial scholarships.
