Industry Partners
The Center has partnered with several companies from the transportation, logistics, and supply chain industries. Companies present problems and CTS provides graduate students to help solve them. In this program, graduate scholars assist participating firms in solving everyday problems through the use of simple analytical tools and industry software packages. Through this process, students obtain valuable experience in applying computer and analytical problems techniques to real-world situations. A number of companies, associations, and foundations have participated in the Industry Partnership Program both from the public and private sectors. Among these are:
Airport
Ground Transportation Association (AGTA)
The Airport Ground Transportation Association, headquartered
at the UM-St. Louis Center for the Transportation Studies,
is a trade association composed of members who are the owners/managers
of for-hire and courtesy airport ground transportation provider
firms, airport landslide management representatives, and suppliers
of goods and services for the conduct of the airport ground
transportation industry. The AGTA Newsletter, a survey of
articles relating to airports and airport ground transportation
management, is published quarterly for the membership. Numerous
industry surveys and data is collected and analyzed annually
by CTS staff and graduate students and an intensive library
of these reports is maintained within the Center. Additionally,
the Association conducts biannual educational conferences/seminars
related to improving both management and service levels in
the airport ground transportation industry.
Courier's,
Inc.
Courier's Inc. is a privately held corporation headquartered
in St. Louis, Missouri. Courier's Inc. is a local delivery
service provider that offers a range of route and on-demand
delivery services involving contract drivers and their private
automobiles. As such, they operate a non-asset based transportation
delivery service for local and regional clients in the Greater
St. Louis, Missouri metropolitan area and the bi-state region.
UM-SL students recently simulated several routes for Courier
utilizing Sails software.
Distribution
Transportation Services
DTS is a family-owned, privately held corporation headquartered
in O'Fallon, Missouri, a suburb of St. Louis. DTS is a total
logistics service provider that offers a wide range of freight
services including truck brokerage, contract carriers, intermodal
rail, international, and expedited. UMSL students have utilized
data from DTS to compare industry routing software.
Emerson Motor Technologies
Founded in St. Louis in the 1890s, Emerson Motor Company built an electric fan which became the foundation of the company. Emerson expanded their product line to now provide electric motor solutions from 1/200 through 4000 horsepower for everything from general to special purpose motors. Today, Emerson Motor Technologies is the largest fractional horsepower electric mtoor manufacturer in the world. The firm offers motors to support a wide variety of applications including commercial and industrial, appliance, hermetic, automotive, pump, HVAC, ventilation and heating and air conditioning.

Founded in 1899 and headquartered in Southfield, Michigan, Federal-Mogul is a global supplier of original equipment and after-market automobile parts. Federal-Mogul has annual revenues of over $6 billion with 130 manufacturing sites world wide producing powertrain and sealing system components, vehicle safety and performance parts, and aftermarket products and services.

Forward
Air Corporation
Forward Air Corporation operates the largest and most comprehensive
network of surface transportation for deferred airfreight.
The Company provides scheduled surface transportation through
an extensive network of 75 terminals located on or near airports
in the United States and Canada. Forward Air focuses its services
on freight forwarders, integrators and airlines by locating
terminals on or near all major airports and maintaining regularly
scheduled transportation service between cities. Students
and affiliated CTS faculty are involved in external pricing
analysis for Forward Air.

for Agriculture and Trade Policy promotes resilient family farms, rural communities and ecosystems around the world through research and education, science and technology and advocacy.

Lanter
Company
Lanter Company is a full-service logistics organization specializing
in temperature control products, truckload, LTL, dedicated
fleets, pool distribution, logistics services, and warehousing
of temperature control products. Lanter provides custom-designed
facilities for its customers' long-term needs, as well as
contract and public warehouse space for small inventories
in specific markets for shorter periods. The company also
offers value-added services such as bundle packing, pick and
pack, module assembly and labeling. Students from CTS have
flowcharted several Lanter operations and their major food
distribution warehouse.
LMS Logistics
LMS Logistics is a non-asset-based, third party logistics provider specializing in creating transportation cost savings for companies lie BASF, Monsanto and The Scotts Company. St. Louis headquartered LMS Logistics uses proven logistics practices and Web-enabled technology to offer Optimization, Execution and Data Management Services that significantly reduce transportation costs.

The Center for Transportation Studies is pleased to announce the addition of Sigma-Aldrich as its newest industry partner. Sigma-Aldrich, with 6,800 employees operating in 35 countries, manufactures biochemical and organic chemical products for customers such as hospitals, life-science companies and universities. The Center and Sigma-Aldrich Worldwide Taskforce on Supply Chain Development will jointly explore the company's supply chain management strategy. Flowcharting, quantitative analysis and warehouse retionalization are among the first research topics to be addressed.

Headquartered in Hartsville, South Carolina, USA, Sonoco is
a global manufacturer of industrial and consumer packaging
solutions. Has approximately 18,000 employees at more than
300 manufacturing and sales locations in 32 countries serving
customers in some 85 nations. Sonoco's packages surround some
of the world's most recognizable brands found in pantries,
stores and manufacturing plants virtually everywhere. CTS
has performed a warehouse consolidation analysis for Sonoco
at their main campus in Hartsville, South Carolina.
Sunset Transportation
Sunset is a privately owned, non-asset based transportation company mainly involved in the brokerage and freight payment business. Founded as a transportation brokerage, Sunset expanded to include a Financial Services as well as a Freight Pay department. Today Sunset operates nationally, matching shippers and carriers across modes by utilizing its large database and extensive buying power to provide integrated solutions. It offers comprehensive services for its customers by managing the information exchange and payment flow between shippers and carriers. Students from CTS are involved in data analysis and transportation cost and services optimization for Sunset.

TLPA
Established in 1917, the Taxicab, Limousine and Paratransit
Association (TLPA) is a non-profit trade association of and
for the private passenger transportation industry. Its extensive
membership spans the globe to include 1,100 taxicab companies,
executive sedan and limousine services, airport shuttle fleets,
non-emergency medical transportation companies, and paratransit
services. CTS is providing ongoing external training and industry
research for TLPA through its foundation TLPF.
