Eric Baumer, Associate Professor

Eric BaumerEric Baumer received his Ph.D. in sociology from the University at Albany, State University of New York in 1999. Eric’s research is concerned primarily with how social structural and cultural features of communities affect individual behavior.

Eric examined this general issue empirically in multilevel studies of the influence of neighborhood characteristics on the nature of crime, the mobilization of law, and the prevalence of various forms of non-normative behavior, in macro-level studies of urban crime levels and trends, and in case studies of crime and social control in Iceland and the Republic of Malta.

Eric’s teaching responsibilities include courses on criminological theory, the nature of punishment, and quantitative research methods.
