Anu Vedagiri
Visual Resourse LibraryAs the Visual Resource Curator of the Visual Resource Library at UMSL, Anu Vedagiri undertakes the administration and overseeing of the image collection in its transition from traditional slides to digital images. Anu has a BFA in Fine Arts from the University of Windsor, Ontario, and MA in Art History from Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio. She received her doctoral degree from The Ohio State University in 2004, with a specialization in South Asian/Indian Art History. Her other subjects at Ohio State included advanced study on the art of Nepal, Tibet, Central Asia, China, Japan, and Buddhist art in general. She has presented papers at major Asian Art conferences on her research concerning the Hindu god Narasimha, and the goddess Lakshmi. In 2007, she was requested by the Department of East Asian Studies at Washington University, in cooperation with International Education Consortium (IEC), Cooperating School Districts of St. Louis to do a workshop on Asian Films. In 2006, Anu was invited by The Icfai University Press, Hyderabad, India, and, the New South Wales Museum in Sydney, Australia to publish papers, “Five Narasimha temples in Andhra Pradesh: A Case Study of Pilgrim/Tourist in South Asia” (Religious Tourism: An Introduction), and “Goddess Lakshmi” (Goddess: Divine Energy) respectively. In addition to her Art History background, Anu has extensive archival experience. In 1996 Anu was appointed Digital Imaging and Design Associate for The Huntington Photographic Archive of Buddhist and Related Art at The Ohio State University, to assist the designer/programmer in generating interfaces for virtual re-creation and study of 13 sites in India, China, Japan, and Nepal. During 2001-2004, she worked as the Image Editor for the NEH (National Endowment for Humanities) and as Image Content Editor for the Mellon ARTstor, grants awarded to The Huntington Archive.
